Data Longevity
The data we transfer offline between devices has an inherent value - either to the current user or to a third party - and should survive until no longer required. This could be, for example, operational data gathered from a machine, environmental data gathered from sensors, security data essential for digital rights management or coding with operational parameters to ensure that only the right people gain access to equipment or to physical areas. Datakey devices are extremely robust and survive hot and cold temperatures, being dropped and run over by vehicles, being left to soak in various uncomfortable liquids, bursts of static electricity as well as being blasted with dust and sand and earth. When they're dirty, just take a toothbrush and clean them under the tap to read out the data they contain!
Double Security
If your machine or apparatus is fitted with a Datakey receptacle, no consumer memory device on the planet will fit that socket. This means that you, the OEM, have direct control of what is plugged into your machine because you supply the customer with tokens to fit that socket. You not only control what is connected but you also have a long-term revenue stream in supplying additional tokens. Noone can go round to the local electronics shop and buy a Datakey device - we only supply OEM directly, worldwide. And if someone loses a Datakey carrier somewhere, the person that picks it up cannot read out the data because it doesn't fit either his PC, his laptop or his Mac. Remember, we only supply OEMs with the components of the Datakey system!
Extreme Survival
Drop a USB stick in the street just as a truck is coming past and you can say goodbye to the data. Sterilise an SD card with EtO or in an autoclave and it will be sterile, also of data. Take a Datakey token however and vibrate it, freeze it, leave it out on the street or lying in the hot summer sun for a few days and it will still work. You can also plug it in and take it out again dozens of times a day, for years, and the contacts will still be reliable. If you want to build a reputation for reliability, even under arduous operating conditions, there's no better platform.
